The introduction of youth and teen fitness programs was a natural step in the evolution of Body by Yeager.

       Jeff’s very first students were teens when he was a teen himself and its only natural that thing go full circle.
        Jeff would like to give more kids the same physical and emotional advantage that he gained when he was growing up.
Jeff was your classic 98 pound weakling entering junior high school and being over 6 feet tall made it even worse for his self esteem.  
        The early start of strength training truly changed his life, giving him the self confidence to face the world.  By the time he graduated high school, he was among the strongest boys in the school.  He developed a muscular physique and a functional body, jumping over 6’ 2” in the high jump and running near Olympic times in the high hurdles.
       Yeager later went on to compete in all natural bodybuilding contests.  At the age of 50, Jeff is a good swimmer, an avid skater, a talented archer, an expert skier, a martial artist and an active kickboxer.
        Jeff attributes his lifelong youthful lifestyle, excellent health and athletic abilities to his early start of a properly designed and evolving workout program.  
        When Yeager’s son was born, Jeff’s research changed direction and he learned of many troubling things about infant and toddler exercise devices,
among many other things.  Mr. Yeager creatively began training his infant son using Swiss Balls to enhance neurological development  The results were astounding.  His son could crawl at amazing speeds, is a natural at everything and is growing into a very strong and coordinated teen.
       Following his instincts and his thirst for knowledge, Jeff learned of the misconceptions held by many about youths engaging in weight lifting.  When his son was 7, Jeff started him on a well rounded, age appropriate strength training program and soon after opened the doors to other children in his after school program.
        The Kids After School Fitness Program was created to provide much needed  professional instruction at an affordable price and continues today.
        The Teen Fitness Advantage program offers personal training & buddy training to students at reduced rates.
       This summer 2008 will be the third annual Body by Yeager Kids Summer Fitness program and Teen Boot Camp.

          Believe it or not, in these radically different times that we live, a lot of parents get more exercise and activity then their children.
            Kids today spend an awful lot of time sitting behind a desk in school and at home, on the internet, playing video games, watching cable television and sending text messages.  I feel there is a place and benefit from some of these things, however the 1 ½  to 2 hours a week of physical education that our children are fortunate enough to get is in school is in no way enough to balance things out.
         We are facing an epidemic of childhood obesity and teens with  symptoms commonly associated with old age... Not to mention we have pharmaceutical companies more than happy to get your children on prescription medications (for life) at the earliest age possible.
         The addition of a properly designed fitness program into your child’s life is the surest way to combat these and many other  problems our kids face today.  The early start of a strength training program into my life improved the quality of my entire life in many ways.  Physically, it gave me an impressive physique, outstanding health and the strength and coordination to excel at many things.  Emotionally, it gave me the
self respect and confidence to face the world and the determination to succeed. This physical and mental clarity brought me from a “C” student to an “A” student.   I would like  to give your kids the same physical and  emotional advantage that I gained while I was growing up.
        I attribute my present excellent health, physique and athletic abilities to this youthful start of a properly designed and ever evolving fitness and nutrition program.
Absolutely Not! There is a high level of  supervision required when working with free weights, (as there should be with machines as well ...both demand perfect execution of movement) however the faulty movement patterns and instability created by the use of machine based training greatly increases the risk of injury on the playing field.
No!  There are some age specific protocols that must be followed to prevent other potential injuries,  However, medical reports have never
shown a single incidence of damage to growth plates in children who strength train.  In fact, exactly the opposite is true.  A properly designed progressive resistance training program is the best
way to enhance development of healthy muscles and bones in children.

At what age can a child safely

begin a strength training program?

There is really no minimum physiological or chronological minimum age at which a child may safely begin a properly designed strength training program.  
The major requirement for a child (of any age) is the ability to follow instructions.  Of course the program must be well balanced using age appropriate activities and protocols.  An instructor with a good understanding of these principals and strong knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology at a functional level is absolutely essential for training youths and teens and is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to begin a fitness program.
